Since my DSTL1 is broken and I couldn't stand
Windows Mobile on my GSmart S1205 (other then the OS it's a decent phone), I ordered one of these Chinese clones, the
Samsung GalaxyS i9000. My impressions after a few days are very bad:
1) GPS has very poor reception
2) Backlight is bad, there's a lot of light coming around the screen at the bottom
3) The phone turns itself on in a pocket (because the middle button unlocks it)
4) The middle button is not 4-way, but just a simple button
5) No 3D
6) No HW buttons to pick or cancel a call, must use touchscreen
7) Battery won't last more then 1 or 2 days
8) The phone was set to English but many menus and buttons remain Chinese
9) Some applications can't be uninstalled
10) Google applications can't be updated
11) Applications can't be moved to SD card
12) And the last but worth thing - the touchscreen panel: It works acceptably if the phone is cold. But even then it is difficult to hit the right spot, writing an SMS is a pain in ass. Once the phone gets warm (after a few minutes of using it or during charging) the screen becomes totally unusable. It receives clicks even if I don't touch the phone at all. This causes that you can't use the phone for more then a few minutes!
I might have got a bad sample, but there are so many flaws that I don't believe it. If you want to get one anyway, don't get a device with capacitive touch screen. Bad resistive screens are difficult to use, but bad capacitive screen is almost unusable. I will wait for GSmart G1310 or other phone from a reputable manufacturer and replace this phone as soon as possible.
